The Dowagiac girls' varsity basketball team dropped a 47-35 non-conference decision to host Berrien Springs Thursday evening.
The Lady Shamrocks outscored Dowagiac 39-27 over the final three quarters, including 11-5 in the pivotal third period to pull out the victory.
Both teams netted eight points in the opening eight minutes, however, Berrien Springs slipped ahead 19-18 at the intermission.
Dowagiac, which has struggled in the third quarter several times this season, did not play well to start the second half.
Berrien Springs took advantage of that fact by outscoring the Chieftains 11-5 and opening up a 30-23 lead heading into the final stanza.
Dowagiac had no answer for Christine Drach on Thursday night as the Berrien Springs standout netted a game-high 24 points.
Sydney Mead added nine points as no other Lady Shamrock reached double figures.
It was the second straight contest that Dowagiac had allowed just one opposing player to reach double figures.
Freshman Katy Stuppy once again led the Chieftains in scoring as she netted 12 points, six of which came on a pair of three-pointers. Senior Brittney Reist added 10 points and junior Kim Luthringer four points.
Dowagiac (1-4) hosts Big 16 Conference West Division foe Lakeshore on Tuesday.
