Two roofers electrocuted in Silver Creek

CASSOPOLIS - Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office investigated an electrocution at a construction site at 10:03 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at 50284 Phillips Road, Silver Creek Township.
The two victims were identified as Dewayne Wessels, 27, of Dowagiac, and Jimmy Collett, 45, of Dowagiac.
Both men were injured while raising a shingle hoist.
The hoist touched a high-voltage power line located near the house they were roofing, causing both men to be shocked.
Both men were transported to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac. Wessels was pronounced dead at Borgess-Lee Memorial due to his injuries.
Collett was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo by Air Care and admitted into the burn center.
Dowagiac and Sister Lakes ambulances assisted at the scene.
