Buchanan head coach Joe Austin felt so good after the Bucks' 62-12 victory over Brandywine that he was seen dancing in the locker room with his players after the game.
It was an appropriate celebration, as Buchanan danced all over the Bobcats Friday night to the tune of 451 total yards. With the victory, the Bucks remained undefeated at 3-0 and picked up their first Lakeland Conference win.
The Bucks running game proved dominant again Friday, but Buchanan showed it could pass the ball effectively as well, something it hadn't done much of in the first two games.
Senior quarterback Gordon Bryant completed 4-of-5 passes for 111 yards. All four of those passes, however, were completed for touchdowns.
Three of those touchdowns went to junior receiver Jordan Lee. Senior running back Dennis Williams caught the other.
Gordon also ran the ball four times, gaining 75 yards and two touchdowns.
Austin said Buchanan's running attack opened up the field for Gordon to pass so effectively. The Bucks rushed for 340 yards and five touchdowns.
Though the score doesn't show it, Brandywine's young team made strides on offense against Buchanan. The Bobcats, who were shut out their first two games, scored two touchdowns and gained 181 yards, their highest total of the season.
Borr said heading into the game that he wanted to add more dimensions to his offense, which primarily ran the ball the first two games. The Bobcats were able to expand their offensive boundaries Friday.
On the first play of the game, Brandywine quarterback attempted a pass deep down field. The throw fell incomplete, but Borr said it shows his team is improving.
Borr also called a fake punt on the first play of the second quarter when the Bobcats were on their own 20-yard line.
Both Buchanan coaches and players said Friday's victory was special because it was over their closest conference rival, Brandywine.
Right guard Jake Allen expressed feelings a little stronger than those of his head coach.
Though the Bucks are undefeated and have steamrolled their first three opponents, winning by a combined score of 123-20, Buchanan offensive lineman Justin Helt said the team can't get too far ahead of itself.
