Cassopolis' E.J. Harris and Jealyn Foston have been named the Leader Publications Athletes of the Week for Cassopolis, Dowagiac and Edwardsburg.
Each week, the athletic directors from Dowagiac, Cassopolis and Edwardsburg will nominate players for the Athlete of the Week.
The sports editor of the Dowagiac Daily News will then select a boys' and girls' winner for each week.
Harris rushed for 187 yards and scored two touchdowns for Cassopolis in their season-opening loss to Schoolcraft on Friday night.
Harris scored on runs of 75 and 81 yards. He carried the ball 13 times for the Rangers.
Schoolcraft defeated the Rangers, however, 36-21.
Foston led the Lady Rangers to victory in their first three games this season.
Foston scored 21 points in Cassopolis' season-opening win over visiting Lawton, and then scored 12 points on the road to help the Lady Rangers improve to 2-0 with a win over Dowagiac.
On Tuesday night, Foston netted 17 points in a win over Colon.
Cassopolis defeated Lawton, 65-52, and Dowagiac, 42-32. The Lady Rangers topped Colon on Tuesday night, 42-39.
Each senior winner will be eligible to apply for the scholarship at the end of the school year. Each week's winners will also receive a three-month subscription to the newspaper of the community they represent.
In April, each senior Athlete of the Week winner from all three sports season will submit an application for the scholarship.
Leader Publications will then select a boys' and girls' Athlete of the Year from either Cassopolis, Dowagiac or Edwardsburg.
The two athletes will receive a scholarship for an as yet to be determined amount.
The winners will be named in May.
