Edwardsburg tennis team wins Niles tourney

NILES - The Edwardsburg girls' tennis team edged Dowagiac on Saturday to win the Niles Invitational.
The Lady Eddies scored 10 points, while Dowagiac tallied seven points and Niles four points.
Bridgman, who was also scheduleed to compete in the tournament, did not show up.
The tournament format called for two singles players and five doubles teams.
To make up the fifth doubles squad, each team's No. 3 and No. 4 singles players were paired together.
Dowagiac swept the singles as Barbara Laing defeated Jackie O'Connor, 6-2 and 6-1, while Lisa Rubino defeated Alia Zander, 6-0 and 6-1.
Edwardsburg won three out of the five doubles matches, while Niles and Dowagiac each won one doubles flight.
The Lady Eddies captured the No. 1 doubles title as Amanda McCracken and Alexa Smith defeated Niles' Heather Dudka and Nicole Negron, 6-4, 6-7 and 6-4.
At No. 3 doubles, Ally Weir and Bethany Marschke defeated Niles' Jena Williams and Mariam Eskander, 6-3 and 6-3.
Edwardsburg also won at No. 4 doubles where Courtney Moyer and Lindsey Mettl defeated Niles' Katie Blaske and Heather Croteau, 6-4 and 7-5.
Eddies vs. Bronson
The Edwardsburg varsity tennis team had no trouble defeating host Bronson in a non-conference match.
The Lady Eddies swept the five doubles matches and won three out of four singles matches.
The lone Bronson victory came at No. 2 singles.

Cass vs. Brandywine
NILES - Brandywine dropped just five games in eight matches Monday to breeze past Cassopolis 8-0 at Plym Park.
The match was originally scheduled to be at Cassopolis, but was changed to a home match for the Bobcats when the new courts at Plym Park were completed last week.
The Bobcats' Jenny Zollman won at No. 1 singles, beating Cass' Sarah Kwast 6-0, 6-2. Kwast was the only Ranger to win more than one game in her match.
Jenny Cowen of Brandywine beat Brittany Polmateer of Cass 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
At No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Brandywine's Amy Konopinski and Amber Valentine each won 6-1, 6-0 over Cass' Cally Hass and Kelli Klimeck, respectively.
Brandywine's doubles teams dropped just one game in four matches.
Bethany Daniel and Christine Dvorak won 6-0, 6-1 over Ericka Glenn and Symone Pompey at No. 1 doubles.
Lisa Konopinski and Kristin Peters won 6-0, 6-0 for Brandywine at No. 2 doubles, beating Gabrielle Bailey and Maddalena Angeloni of Cassopolis.
At No. 3 doubles, Nikki Cooper and Courtney Schlutt beat Cass' Kandice McKnight and Brittney Beauchamp 6-0, 6-0.
Brandywine's No. 4 doubles team rounded out the victory, as Ashley Valentine and Jamie Bartuska beat Diamond Walker and Carmalite Peake 6-0, 6-0.
The Bobcats now head to Niles to face the Vikings today. Marazita said Niles will provide a tough test and show how good his team really is.
