The Secretary of State branch office at 110 E. Main St., Niles, will be closed for remodeling beginning Monday, Sept. 13,
It will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 27 as one of Michigan's 22 new Secretary of State PLUS offices.
Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land created PLUS offices to offer customers greater convenience and enhanced service options. The new Berrien County PLUS office will offer expanded hours on Wednesdays and the availability of an on-site customer-service specialist. In the future, benefits will include payment by credit card, a self-service option for vehicle registration renewal and the availability of obtaining driving records on site rather than by mail or travel to Lansing.
During the closure, customers needing services can visit nearby offices at:
Three Oaks, 6992 US-12 W. and Dowagiac 601-C N. Front St.
The Secretary of State's Office mails notices to motorists 45 days before their driver's licenses or license plates expire so that they have ample time to renew. Land reminds residents that they can "skip the trip" to a branch office by renewing vehicle and watercraft registration online.
