Former Dowagiac resident Pete Allison died Friday morning in an automobile accident in LaPorte County (Ind.).
Allison, 33, was a 1989 Dowagiac Union High School graduate, who played football and wrestled for the Chieftains.
Allison was a member of the first Dowagiac wrestling team to reach the state team tournament finals weekend at the Kellogg Center Arena in Battle Creek.
Dowagiac lost to Caro in the quarterfinals.
Allison was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on Indiana 2 near Pinhook, Ind.
Allison was headed east at approximately 10 a.m. (Michigan time) when his pick-up veered slightly over the center line and was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer driven by Robert Lawson, 44, of Crown Point, Ind., according to the LaPorte County Police.
Alcohol was not involved in the accident and Allison was wearing his seatbelt. The incident remains under investigation.
