Although head coach Jim Arnold wouldn't call it revenge, Niles' girls' varsity basketball team beat Gull Lake 59-45 Thursday.
The Blue Devils beat Niles in the regionals of last year's state tournament.
Point guard Amber Peters led the Vikings, finishing with a triple-double. She scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
Forward Sarah Dreher was Niles' leading scorer with 22 points on eight field goals and 6-of-8 free throw shooting. Her total was a career high for the senior.
The Vikings (1-0) got ahead early, leading 20-16 after the first quarter. The lead was cut to three at halftime, but Niles held Gull Lake (1-1) to six points in the third quarter.
Kate Whittaker had 11 rebounds to lead the team. In addition to Peters' and Dreher's offensive performances, each had two steals.
Brandie Radde also scored in double figures with 13 points. She also hit the Vikings only 3-point shot.
Niles was able to draw fouls, going to the free throw line 29 times, but hitting only 18 of the attempts.
Niles' freshman team lost 35-20.
The varsity plays again Tuesday when they host Kalamazoo Central at 7:30 p.m.
