School starts Monday in Niles

NILES - Custodians are applying the final coats of wax to school floors, kids are flooding the aisles at local stores searching for school supplies, and teachers are organizing their classrooms just the way they want them.
Is summer vacation really over for children in Niles?
Yes it is.
Niles Community Schools will hold its first full day of classes Monday with a regular school day schedule.
Northside Child Development Center will hold a.m. begindergarten/kindergarten from 8:54 a.m. to 12:02 p.m., and p.m. begindergarten/kindergarten from 12:37 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Morning special education runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Afternoon special education runs from 12:22 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
James Ellis Elementary will hold classes from 8:34 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. with a.m. kindergarten running from 8:34 a.m. to 11:42 a.m. and p.m. kindergarten running from 12:17 p.m. to 3:25 p.m.
All other elementary buildings will hold classes from 8:39 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a.m. kindergarten running 8:39 a.m. to 11:47 p.m. and p.m. kindergarten from 12:20 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Ring Lardner Middle School classes will run from 7:39 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Niles Senior High School classes will run from 7:29 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.
Southside School classes will run from 8:32 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
Cedar Lane Alternative Education will hold classes from from 7:50 a.m. to 2:07 p.m.

The breakfast and lunch program will begin Monday.
All elementary buildings are open for registration from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. New middle school and high school students may register between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the appropriate building. For more information, call the individual school building.
Transportation information, including a list of bus schedules, will be in the school calendar.
All new enrollees in the Niles Community Schools must meet current Michigan Department of Health immunizations requirements before they begin school. They should bring a copy of their immunization record when enrolling. Students will be excluded from attendance on the first day of school if immunizations are not up to date.
Notification as to whether a begindergarten/kindergarten child is to attend morning or afternoon will be made during the week of Aug. 23.
At Northside, kindergarten/begindergarten/special education orientation is Tuesday. Orientation for morning students will be at 6 p.m., and afternoon students will be at 7:30 p.m. The orientation is for parents/guardians only. No child care will be provided.
Orientation for all seventh-grade students and for eighth-grade students who are new to the district will be held at Ring Lardner Middle School in the cafeteria Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Students with last names beginning A-K will attend Monday, while students with the last names beginning L-Z will attend Tuesday.
All eighth-grade students who are new to the Niles Community School District should attend the Monday session.
Orientation for all ninth grade students and newly enrolled high school students will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Enrollment forms have been mailed to freshman and students must bring this form with them to orientation.
Niles adult education classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 7.
The first GED test session will be Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. Pre-registration is requested.
