The Southwest Michigan committee of Ducks Unlimited will hold its 33 annual fundraiser at St. Joe Kicker's Club in Berrien Springs on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.
Local Ducks Unlimited fundraising events held throughout the country last year contributed towards Ducks Unlimited's national fundraising effort of over $175 million during the year 2000.
Each year the United States loses some 100,000 acres of wetland habitat. Since its inception, Ducks Unlimited has raised over $1.5 billion and enhanced and restored over 10 million habitat acres, encompassing over 18,600 wetland projects in the U.S., in an effort to reverse this destructive trend.
Ducks Unlimited's projects to provide habitat for more than 900 wildlife species, including ducks, geese and endangered species like the whooping crane and bald eagle.
While Ducks Unlimited has accomplished a great deal since its founding in 1937, the rapid draining of wetlands demands that the organization continue to accelerate its work, de la Foret said. Efforts like those of the Southwest Michigan committee are a vital, he added.
Tickets to the banquet are available at BJ's Sports in St. Joe, Fisher Landis in St. Joe, Great Lakes Letterpress of St. Joe, or contact Gene de la Foret at (269) 429-1897.
