Marshall, Richardson reach semis

Mike and Lisa Rubino successfully defended their mixed doubles championship Sunday afternoon at the Union High School tennis courts.
The 6-2 and 6-4 victory over Ashley Urbanski and Larry Watson capped two weekends of tennis action for a variety of city championships.
On Saturday afternoon, Mike Rubino doubled his pleasure by winning the men's doubles championship with his father Chuck Rubino.
Mike and Chuck Rubino defeated Curtis Partee and Larry Watson in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7) and 6-2.
In the women's doubles championship match, Barbara Laing and Blair Laing defeated Lisa Rubino and Elyse VerBerkmoes, 7-5, 2-6 and 6-4.
In reaching the mixed doubles finals, team Rubino defeated Barbara Laing and Partee in the semifinals, 7-6 (7-0) and 6-3, after receiving a first round bye.
Laing and Partee defeated Taylor Townsend and Mike Hoff in an opening round match, 6-3 and 6-0.
Urbanski and Watson reached the finals with a 6-3 and 6-2 victory over VerBerkmoes and Chuck Rubino. Both teams had first round byes.
On Saturday afternoon, Mike and Chuck Rubino reached the finals with a 6-2, 5-7 and 7-5 victory over Scott Marshall and Kevin Richardson in the semifinals. Team Rubino defeated Jonathan Woosley and David Stroup in the quarterfinals, 6-0 and 6-3.
Watson and Partee defeated Dave Negron and Terry Proctor in the semifinals, 6-2 and 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Watson and Partee defeated Adam Carlson and Sonny Swartz, 6-1 and 6-2.
Marshall and Richardson defeated Hoff and Josue Miranda in the quarterfinals, 6-0 and 6-1. Negron and Proctor defeated Jim Darr and Mike Urbanski in the quarterfinals, 6-2 and 6-3.
Hoff and Miranda defeated Marbach and Wagley in the opening round of the tournament, 6-0 and 6-0.
