Dowagiac coaches announce schedules

Dowagiac Union High coaches in soccer, golf, tennis and basketball have announced their fall sports practices.
The Dowagiac soccer team will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 9 at 9 a.m.
Tryouts, at the high school soccer field, will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and again from 6-9 p.m.
All prospective players must have a physical on file with the athletic department to participate in drills.
Dowagiac boy's golf coach Van Johnson has announced that his squad will begin practice on Monday, Aug. 9 as well.
The golf team will begin practice at 8 a.m. at Hampshire Country Club.
Girl's tennis coach Chuck Rubino has announced that practice will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 9.
Practice, at the Union High tennis courts, will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
Any girl who is involved with band camp, should report to camp at 8 a.m. They will be released at approximately 9 a.m. to come to tennis practice.
Dowagiac varsity football coach Mike Stanger has announced that practice will begin with a meeting at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field on Monday, Aug. 9 at 2:15 p.m.
Football equipment will be passed out beginning Aug. 6.
The varsity football team will pick up its equipment at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 6, while the junior varsity squad will pick up its equipment at 11 a.m.
The freshman football team will be issued helmets only at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 6.
Practice will begin at 2:45 and run until 9 p.m. There will be some time off during that period, but the team will remain together.
Practices will continue from 2:45 until 9 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 13.
On Saturday, Aug. 14, practice will be one session from 9 a.m. until noon.
Dowagiac will hold an intra-squad "Orange and Black" scrimmage, which is open to the public, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Chris Taylor-Alumni Field.
The "controlled" scrimmage will help prepare the Chieftains for their real scrimmage on Aug. 20 at Mendon.
Joining the host school and Dowagiac will be Three Rivers, Plainwell, Otsego, Portage Central and Sturgis. No time has been set.
The junior varsity and freshmen will face the same teams in Three Rivers.
Basketball coach Joe Spitale has announced his practice schedule for the first week, which begins on Monday at 8 a.m.
The varsity and junior basketball teams will practice from 8 a.m. until noon on Aug. 9, while the freshmen squad will practice from 4-6 p.m.
On Tuesday, the varsity and JV teams will practice from 8-10 a.m. and again from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The freshmen squad will practice from 4-6 p.m.
On Wednesday the varsity and JV teams will practice from 8-12, while the freshmen team will practice from 3-5 p.m.
On Thursday, the varsity and JV teams will practice from 8-12 and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The freshmen will practice from 4-6 p.m.
On Friday, the varsity and JV will practice from 8-12, while the freshmen will practice from 4-6.
