Dowagiac Fire Fighters spent this past Sunday training at Barry's Automotive with there new Hurst Rescue tools.
The new tools are replacing our old set that are 25 plus years old. The tools that were replaced are the "Jaw's of Life" a 40 inch hydraulic spreader, a new hydraulic cutter, a new gas powered hydraulic pump, and a new addition to the tool compliment, a combination tool.
This tool combines a 16 inch hydraulic spreader with a sheet metal cutter. Some other new tools that were purchased in addition to the new hydraulic tools are, a set of Rescue 42 stabilizing struts these struts are used to shore up and stabilize a vehicle that may be on its side or on i's top.
The tool now giving the firefighters a way of quickly shoring up a car or truck as to not cause further injure the passengers or injury to the rescuers.
The Dowagiac Fire Department would like to give a big thank's to Barry Yakim, Chad Hutchings, and the entire staff of Barry's Automotive for providing the department with the junked cars and the space to train with and also feeding them lunch.
Mmmm good corn and sausage "Chef Barry".
