Five injured in Friday evening crash

NILES -- On Friday at about 5:50 p.m., the Michigan State Police Niles Post handled a serious personal injury accident on US-12 near M-51.
The accident occurred when a west bound mini-van driven by Tyrone Looney, 29, of Niles, crossed the median and struck head on a car traveling east bound by Joshua Brooks, 26, of Dowagiac.
Looney was transported by SMCAS to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind. and was listed in serious condition. Brooks was transported by Edwardsburg Ambulance to Lakeland, Niles and was listed in good condition.
There were three passengers in the van, two were transported to Memorial in South Bend and were listed as serious. The third passenger suffered only minor injuries.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The State Police was assisted by Niles Township Police and Fire.
