Slammerz win NSA tourney

The Edwardsburg Slammerz 166 Fastpitch Girls' softball team won the NSA State Qualifier Tournament held in Warsaw, Ind.
The Slammerz played three games on Saturday -- beating the Indiana Whirlwinds in the opener 7-1, beating the Indiana Avalanche 3-2, and losing to the Circle City Sliders 6-0.
The Slammerz finished as the second seed in their division setting up the single elimination play on Sunday. In the opener on Sunday, the Slammerz beat the Valpo Thun-der/Raiders team 11-1.
A rematch with the Indiana Avalanche was won by the Slammerz 2-1 to reach the championship game.
Another rematch in the championship with the Circle City Sliders from Indianapolis was deadlocked 1-1 at the end of regulation play and went into International Tiebreaker play. The Slammerz won the championship game 4-3 in the eighth inning.
