CASSOPOLIS -- A Niles man was pinned in a vehicle which overturned early today in Penn Township.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his deputies investigated a personal-injury accident that occurred at 2:33 a.m. July 21 at M-60 and Geneva Road.
Stephen Correia, 45, of South Haven was westbound on M-60 when he traveled straight through the curve, ran off the road and rolled the vehicle over.
Correia was ejected from the vehicle. His passenger, Ronald Hayes, 47, of Niles, was pinned in the vehicle.
The sheriff said it is believed that no one was using safety belts. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Ambulance services treated both individuals, then transported Hayes to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac. Air Care flew Correia to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Both were listed as stable.
Dowagiac and Cassopolis ambulances and Penn Township fire personnel assisted deputies at the scene.
