11-12 year-olds win district, head to state championship

The Niles 11-12 year-old All-Star team won the District 15 championship on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Three Rivers at Schoolcraft in extra innings.
The game was decided in the seventh inning with Dashaun Curtis driving in Ramone Brown for the win.
Curtis pitched to a 1-1 tie through his six innings and left the game with a no decision. Kevin Gross pitched the seventh and earned the win.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings until Three Rivers scored in the top of the forth. Niles tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Aaron Davis doubled and drove in Brown who had singled before him, tying the score.
With the victory, Niles advances to the state tournament at Kalamazoo. The All-Stars begin play at 6 p.m. Friday.
