SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Becky Breisch finished in fourth place in the discus at the U.S. Olympic Trials Monday at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif.
Breisch just missed making the Olympic Team that will travel to Athens, Greece in August.
She had her best toss of 59.28m (194-06) on her first attempt before fouling on her second try. Breisch's third attempt was marked at 56.09m, and left her trailing winner Aretha Hill (63.55m), Stephanie Brown (61.90m) and Seilala Sua (61.60m). Brown had not made an Olympic 'A' qualifying standard until Monday's competition, but with the second-place finish will join Hill and Sua on the American squad.
Breisch, who will be a senior next season, is a three-time All-American in the discus and took home the 2004 Outdoor NCAA Championship last month.
The school record holder in the event, Breisch has won two Big 12 titles in the event and finished third and second, respectively, at the 2003 and 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Breisch is also looking to make the U.S. Olympic team in the shot put event. The Edwardsburg native is a four-time All-American in the event and earned gold in the event at the 2003 Outdoor NCAA Championships.
A seven-time Big 12 champion, she is scheduled to compete in the qualifying round of the shot put on Thursday at 8:35 p.m. Thursday's action can be seen live on the USA Network from 10 p.m. until midnight.
