Ricky Carmichael continued his 2004 unbeaten streak by winning round five of the 12-race AMA Chevrolet 250 Motocross Championship Sunday at Red Bud Track 'n Trail in Buchanan.
Carmichael, 24, of Havana, Fla., dominated both motos on his Honda CRF450R to become the first rider to win four AMA Nationals at the historic Red Bud circuit.
This weekend the track celebrated its 30th anniversary of hosting AMA Motocross Nationals. A crowd of 19,723 attended the race in spite of morning rain.
Kevin Windham, of Centreville, Miss., was second.
Aussie Chad Reed took third behind Carmichael in the 250 class and maintained second in the series standings, 40 points behind Carmichael.
Michael Brown won his first race in more than a year by upsetting James Stewart in the 125 division.
Stewart crashed at the start of the second moto after easily controlling the first. He re-mounted, but crashed again and finally pulled off the track with mechanical problems on his Kawasaki. Stewart finished seventh overall. It was his first lost in the series since returning from injury at Budds Creek, Md., last season.
Brown, who was 53 points down to Stewart coming into this race, closed the gap to 31 after his Red Bud victory.
David Millsaps and Josh Grant each earned their first national podium finishes after taking second and third respectively in the 125 class.
