If images in cool pastels come to mind when you think of summer, Whistlestop Gifts is "serving up" The Grand Old City in a rainbow of sherbet colors, as it unveils its newest line of Dowagiac novelty apparel.
Operated by the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, the tiny boutique known as Whistlestop specializes in novelty apparel, note cards, canvas tote bags and modern-day postcards that capture the beauty of The Grand Old City.
Vickie Phillipson, program director of the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Authority, said the new apparel line features crew-neck and polo shirts, and sweatshirts in fun summertime colors of pink-blossom, cotton-candy, yellow-haze, goldenrod, lilac, periwinkle, lime-pistachio and blueberry.
The unisex sweatshirt, featuring a full-front design, is made of a new blend of fleece, which is ideal for embroidered apparel, Phillipson said.
Color choices include the tone-on-tone cotton-candy, periwinkle and lime-pistachio, as yellow-haze features a contrasting peach-fuzz embroidery.
The button-down pique polos portray a left-chest embroidered design.
The polos are available in tone-on-tone cotton-candy, lime-pistachio, yellow-haze, lilac and blueberry.
Phillipson said for a softer feel, the shirts are made from 100-percent combed-in cotton, ring-spun yarn.
The men's crew-neck shirt, featuring a full-front design, is available in tone-on-tone carrot and periwinkle.
The women's crew-neck also features a full-front design and is available in blossom-pink, goldenrod and periwinkle.
For women, the crew-neck comes in both the traditional and crop-cut lengths.
The new summer apparel retails at introductory prices of $16 for crew-necks, $24 for polos and $28 for sweatshirts. The designs were embroidered for the Chamber of Commerce by Mr. K's Wearhouse and Embroidery in Dowagiac.
