Three-way accident in Porter sends one to hospital

CASSOPOLIS -- A three-way collision between Union, White Pigeon and Goshen, Ind., drivers Tuesday night in Porter Township sent one of them to Elkhart, Ind., General Hospital.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports that his deputies responded to the personal-injury accident at 9:57 p.m. June 15 on Sunset Boulevard, north of Michigan Street in Porter Township.
Brent Shank, 40, of White Pigeon was northbound on Sunset when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Randal Meade, 38, of Goshen.
After striking Meade's vehicle, the Shank vehicle then struck a vehicle driven by James Sanders, 49, of Union.
Shank's vehicle then came to rest after striking a tree.
Meade and his passenger, Rickey Thacker, 49, of Goshen, were uninjured.
Sanders and his passengers, Connie Sanders, 47, and Jessica Sanders, 15, of Union, were also unhurt.
Shank was taken to Elkhart General for treatment of his injuries.
Deputies were assisted by Porter fire and ambulance personnel.
Seatbelts were used by all persons involved.
The sheriff said speed and alcohol appear to have been a factor in this accident, which remains under investigation.
