ST. JOSEPH -- The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The Lakeshore Lancers captured their ninth district championship in the last 10 years with a 4-0 victory over Dowagiac in the title game.
Dowagiac reached the title game with a 7-0 victory over Coloma in the second semifinal contest on Saturday.
Lakeshore made it back to the finals with a 3-1 win over St. Joseph.
Lakeshore jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Chieftains in the championship game as Monica Gathright doubled with two outs.
The Lancers (32-5-1) extended their advantage to 2-0 in the fifth inning as Julie Olson reached on an error allowing Lauren Castonguay to score.
Dowagiac had a chance to get back into the contest in the bottom of the first when with two outs, catcher Mandy Parish lined a shot to second baseman Amanda Harrington. Harrington caught the sharply hit ball and then doubled off courtesy runner Erica Pletz at third.
The Lancers turned away Dowagiac every time the Chieftains threatened to score with solid defense.
Lakeshore added two runs in the top of the seventh on an error.
In the first game, Dowagiac's Brittney Reist hit the first pitch for a home run as the Chieftains scored four runs against Coloma. Parish doubled and drove in two runs, while Brianne Reist tripled in the first inning for the Chieftains.
Brittney Reist took the loss in the title game and got the win in the first game.
