Motorcyclist in intensive care after crash

NILES -- Tropers at Michigan State Police Niles Post No. 53 are investigating a motorcycle versus pickup truck accident that occurred on Thursday at about 10:28 a.m. on M-60 near Juniper Road in Howard Township.
The motorcycle, driven by Richard Lee Matthews, 59, of the 1600 block of Superior St. in Niles, was travelling east bound on M-60 in the right lane.
The pickup truck, driven by Terry Lee Humphrey, 55, of the 2600 block of Korn St. in Niles, had been travelling west bound and had driven into the median crossover.
Humphrey attempted to cross east bound M-60 and pull into the Phillips 66 Gas Station parking lot and the motorcycle ran into the side of the truck.
Matthews was thrown from the motorcycle on to the roadway and suffered serious injuries. He is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Humphrey suffered minor injuries from the accident and was transported to Lakeland Hospital Niles.
Michigan State Police officers were assisted on the scene by the Howard Township Fire Department and First Responders, Cass County Sheriff's Department, SMCAS and Michigan Department of Transportation.
