Workers from Northern Indiana Construction are shown Monday preparing for construction of a bridge over the channel to the island at Christiann Lake in Mason Township. A bird, an Eastern Phoebe, was found nesting under the old bridge that was going to be torn down, and the project was halted by the Michigan Department of Transportation until the baby birds could hatch. They expected this to take about 27 days, but the nest has been relocated instead. The May 17 project is about a week behind schedule. Cost of the critical bridge project is federally funded at $127,000.
