KALAMAZOO -- There was no doubt about who had the best boys track team in the Big 16 Conference Wednesday afternoon at Kalamazoo Central High School.
Portage Northern dominated the event, racking up 157.2 points to easily outdistance the host school, which finished with 84 points.
Dowagiac and Benton Harbor tied for fifth place, while Lakeshore was third and Coldwater fourth.
Niles finished 15th with 13.2 points.
On the girl's side, Kalamazoo Central also scored a lopsided victory with 142 points compared to 94 points by runner-up Battle Creek Lakeview.
Coldwater finished third with Battle Creek Harper Creek finishing fourth and St. Joseph fifth.
Niles finished 14th with 15 points and Dowagiac finished 16th with 11 points.
Dowagiac and Niles did not finish with a single champion on Wednesday, however, several Chieftains and Vikings fared well as individuals.
For Niles, Isaiah Glaze finished third in the 100-meters with a time of 11.34.
The Vikings were fourth in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:32.99. That team consists of Glaze, Otis West, Quinton King and Robert Cinninger.
On the girl's side for the Lady Vikings, Ashley Austin finished third in the shot put with a toss of 33-10.
Niles' Chelsea Bennett finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 101-4.
The Lady Vikings were also fifth in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:51.66. That relay team consists of Tasha Webster, Shameka Fultz, Mariette Strauss and Kristin Lamarre.
Dowagiac's Devon Jackson, a three-time regional champion, finished second in the 100-meters, second in the 200-meters and third in the 400-meters.
Jackson ran times of 11.09, 22.63 and 50.24 respectively. All times were done automaticially.
Chieftain freshman Donta Young had a good day with a third place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles and a fourth place finish in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
Young ran times of 15.45 and 41.87.
Dowagiac also earned a second place finish on the girl's side of the meet as Anne O'Keefe cleared 9-feet.
Ashley Urbanski was the only other place winner for the Chieftains on Wednesday as she finished sixth in the 100-meters with a time of 13.64.
The top six places were scored in the meet. The top six finishers also were given medals and earned all-conference honors.
