For the second time this week, the Buchanan varsity baseball team split a doubleheader with one of the top Division 4 teams in the state.
New Buffalo, ranked No. 4, beat Buchanan 12-2 to start Wednesday's non-conference twinbill but Buchanan came back for a 9-6 win in the second game.
Buchanan also split a doubleheader with Michigan Lutheran, ranked No. 6, on Monday.
Penn Tournament
The Niles varsity baseball team finished its participation in the Penn (Ind.) Kingsmen Klassic Wednesday night with a 3-2 win over Jimtown (Ind.) in eight innings.
Matt Richardson earned the victory and allowed just five hits. Kyle Kidwell, Josh Henry, Cory Coquillard, John Kessick, Adrian Davis and Nick Downing each hit a double for the Vikings.
Niles, which beat Brandywine and lost to Penn earlier in the tournament, is now 19-9 on the year and will play in the St. Joseph Invitational Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
Brandywine's last game in the Kingsmen Klassic was a disappointing one as it lost 15-0 to Penn.
The Kingsmen scored nine runs in the second inning, and three more in the next two innings.
Brandywine managed just two hits, one of which was a double by Billy Syrette.
Kory Bridges took the loss, but was relieved by Syrette in the second. Matt Wieger took over in the fourth and finished the game.
