NILES -- Niles High School sophomore Tasha Webster and Niles junior Otis West are the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for May 17-22.
Webster is a member of the Niles girls track and field team which won its final dual meet of the season last week.
In a 91-64 win over Edwardsburg, Webster took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.82. In that meet she also helped the 800-meter relay team finish first with a time of 1:55.2 and the 400-meter relay team take first with a time of 54.15.
At the Division 2 Regional Meet on Friday at Allegan High School, Webster finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.2.
West is a member of the Niles boys track and field team which also won its final dual meet of the season and finished fourth at the Regional Meet.
In the 112-39 win over Edwardsburg, West took first in the long jump with a leap of 19-6.5, second in the 100-meter dash and helped the 400-meter and 800-meter relay teams take first places.
At the Regional Meet, West qualified for the State Finals in four events. He finished third in the long jump with a leap of 20-4.75. He took fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13. He helped the 400-meter relay team take second place with a time of 44.2. He also helped the 800-meter relay team take fourth with a time of 1:32.2.
