NILES -- Three runs was all Niles was willing to give up, but that was enough as visiting Culver Academy (Ind.) shut the Vikings out twice by scores of 3-0 Saturday in non-conference softball action.
A pair of home runs by the same player brought in all three runs in the first game and pitcher Jackie Lawrence tossed a no-hitter.
Cara Frucci took the loss for Niles, dropping her record to 0-2.
The Vikings put up more of a fight in the second game with three hits, but still went scoreless.
Kate Whittaker managed a pair of singles and Julie Kater singled once.
Kater took the loss for the Vikings and is now 6-5 on the season.
The Vikings, now 14-12, will take part in a Big 16 Conference crossover doubleheader Tuesday before hosting Brandywine Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader at 4 p.m.
