Niles sweeps St. Joseph to win West Division title

For the first time since 1996, the Niles varsity baseball team captured a conference title Tuesday night.
With a sweep of St. Joseph, the Vikings clinched the Big 16 Conference West Division title.
Niles beat the Bears 1-0 and 10-5 to improve to 16-8 overall and fiinish the West Division season with a record of 7-1.
Junior Adrian Davis scored the only run of the first game as senior John Kessick struck out eight batters on his way to the complete-game victory. Kessick is now 7-0 on the season. Kessick gave up four hits to the Bears.
Cory Cory Coquillard doubled for Niles' only extra-base hit in the opener. The Vikings managed a total of three hits.
Matt Richardson improved to 4-2 as he worked the entire second game, giving up just five hits.
Coquillard hit another double in the second game as did Kyle Kidwell, Kyle Isabel and Josh Henry. The Vikings had a total of 10 hits in the second game.
