Niles takes first place at Coloma

The Niles varsity baseball team won its second tournament title of the season with a pair of wins at Coloma High School Saturday.
Niles, now 11-6 on the season, beat Vicksburg 7-1 in the first game of the day and then beat the host Comets 6-4 in the championship game.
Niles senior pitcher John Kessick remained unbeaten as he earned the victory in the first game. Kessick struck out 16 Vicksburg batters and then helped his team out offensively in the title game with a home run.
Matt Richardson earned the pitching victory in the championship game.
Kyle Isabel doubled against Vicksburg and Cory Coquillard doubled against Coloma.
The Vikings managed six hits against Vicksburg and 10 against Coloma.
Coquillard and Adrian Davis each hit two singles in the first game. Davis them came back for three singles against Coloma while Kyle Kidwell hit a pair of singles.
Niles is scheduled to play a single game at Coldwater Tuesday at 5 p.m. before hosting Dowagiac for a Big 16 Conference West Division doubleheader Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Niles junior varsity baseball team split a Big 16 Conference doubleheader Thursday evening and then swept a pair of games from an Indiana opponent Saturday.
Niles cruised past Battle Creek Lakeview, 15-2, in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader. The host Spartans, however, came back for a 3-1 win in the second game.
Niles hosted South Bend Adams Saturday at Thomas Stadium and Niles coach Art Zache picked up a couple wins over his son, Adam, who coaches Adams. The Vikings won 8-2 and 5-1 to improve to 15-4 on the season.
