Coldwater gets split

The Dowagiac JV softball team split with visiting Coldwater Tuesday afternoon.
The Chieftains (4-2) defeated the Lady Cardinals, 10-0, in the opening game, but lost in the nightcap, 3-2.
Maureen Pickar tossed a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the opening game.
Calie Daniels went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Sara Ausra, Pickar and Katie Key were all 2-for-3.
Molly Seurynck was 2-for-2.
In the second game Katie Roach struck out 10 and allowed six hits.
Katie Hewitt was 2-for-4 to lead Dowagiac. Brittany Bruens, Beth Tomczak, Pickar, Roach and Tiffany Ferrier all had one hit. Pickar's was a double.
JV baseball
The junior varsity baseball team only got one game in Tuesday night against Coldwater.
The Chieftains (5-2) won 9-5.
Mathew Dodson was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs. Russell Sizemore, Brandon Simmons and Michael Kasper all had hits. Kasper and Jordan Huey each had RBIs.
JoAngel Goins (1-1) picked up the victory as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
The second game was stopped after three innings.
