NILES -- Former Niles Township Fire Chief John LaMore is tossing his hat into the political arena.
LaMore announced Monday night at the Niles Township Board of Trustees meeting he will be running for Berrien County Commissioner for the 12th district.
That seat is currently held by Buchanan's Jim Converse.
LaMore said his motivation for seeking the post is to "give Niles Township a voice for Niles Township from Niles Township."
LaMore, who is running as a Republican, said one of his primary duties is to keep others in Niles Township informed about the business of the Berrien County Commission, something he thinks is lacking now.
LaMore worked in the Niles Township Fire Department for 25 years, the third busiest fire department in Berrien County, serving 13 years as its chief. He also served on the fire and police pension board for 10 years.
