Spring tournament assignments released

NILES -- The only spring 2004 state high school tournaments hosted locally will be the Division 3 baseball and softball districts and Division 4 tennis regional hosted by Buchanan High School.
The defending Division 4 State champion Buchanan tennis team will host the regional tournament on Friday, May 21, at Leeper Park in South Bend, Ind., weather permitting. Joining the Bucks at that tournament will be Berrien Springs, Bridgman, Cassopolis, Coloma, Eau Claire, Edwardsburg, Brandywine, Parchment, Paw Paw and Lake Michigan Catholic.
The Niles tennis team will travel to Allegan to play in the Division 3 Regional Tournament. Joining the Vikings in that tournament will be Allegan, Dowagiac, Hamilton, Plainwell, Gull Lake, South Haven, St. Joseph, Lakeshore and Wayland Union.
Buchanan will also host the Division 3 baseball and softball districts the week of June 1-5. Joining the Bucks at both tournaments will be Berrien Springs, Bridgman, Brandywine and River Valley.
The Niles baseball and softball teams will travel to St. Joseph for the Division 2 tournaments the week of June 1-5. Joining the Vikings in both tournaments will be Coloma, Dowagiac, St. Joseph and Lakeshore.
The Niles golf team will travel to Marshall on Friday, May 21, for the Division 2 Regional Tournament at the Marshall Country Club. Joining the Lady Vikings at that tournament will be Battle Creek-Lakeview, Benton Harbor, Charlotte, Coldwater, Eaton Rapids, Hastings, Loy Norrix, Lansing-Eastern, Lansing-Sexton, Lansing-Waverly, Marshall, Mattawan, Plainwell, Portage Northern, Gull Lake, St. Joseph, Sturgis and Vicksburg.
The Niles soccer team will travel to Mattawan the week of June 1-5 for the Division 2 District Tournament. Also competing in that tournament will be Benton Harobr, Mattawan, St. Joseph and Lakeshore.
The Brandywine and Buchanan soccer teams will take part in the Division 4 District Tournament at Bridgman during the week of June 1-5. Also competing in that tournament are Bridgman and Lake Michigan Catholic.
The Division 2 Track and Field Regional meet will be held at Allegan on May 21. The Niles teams will be joined in that event by Allegan, Coloma, Dowagiac, Comstock, Mattawan, Otsego, Paw Paw, Plainwell, Gull Lake, South Haven, St. Joseph, Lakeshore, Sturgis, Three Rivers and Vicksburg.
The Brandywine and Buchanan track and field teams will competet in the Division 3 Regional on May 21 at Constantine. Also competing there will be Bangor, Berrien Springs, Bloomingdale, Bridgman, Constantine, Edwardsburg, Hartford, Kalamazoo Christian, Kalamazoo-Hackett, Parchment, Schoolcraft, River Valley and Watervliet.
