EAU CLAIRE -- The Dowagiac varsity golf team finally got its season under way on Thursday.
After traveling to South Haven on Wednesday for its season opener and only gettting a few holes in before weather forced the postponement, Dowagiac hosted Sturgis at Indian Lake Hills Golf Course.
Despite bone-chilling temperatures and gusty winds that made it feel even colder out on the course, Sturgis and Dowagiac were able to finish the match.
The Lady Trojans posted a 266-346 victory over the Chieftains, who were missing four of their top players due to a school trip.
Courtney Miller was medalist on the day with a round of 52 in less than ideal conditions.
Dowagiac was led by Erin Ausra's 66.
The Chieftains also got an 84 from Jessica Simpson, an 88 from Amanda Mengel and a 108 from Beth Mengel.
Dowagiac will return to action following spring break on April 19 when it hosts the Big 16 Conference West Division season-opening jamboree at Indian Lake Hills beginning at 3:30 p.m.
