CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Drug Enforcement Team detectives broke up two methamphetamine labs Friday -- one in Penn Township and one in Mason Township.
Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported that team members, along with detectives and deputies from his office, executed a narcotics search warrant on U.S. 12 in Mason Township.
Officers located a sawed-off shotgun, several other weapons, marijuana and a large amount of stolen property at the residence.
They also said they located a methamphetamine lab on the property.
A 43-year-old male and a 36-year-old female were arrested and lodged at the Cass County Jail for weapons offenses.
Their names were withheld by authorities pending formal arraignment.
The sheriff said additional arrests and charges on other individuals involved will be forthcoming.
The other occurrence was reported at 6 p.m. March 19 in the 57000 block of Ely Road in Penn Township.
Drug team detectives and detectives and deputies from the Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant and located a methamphetamine lab and several chemicals and items used to produce methamphetamine.
There was a propane tank containing anhydrous ammonia, which is also used in production of methamphetamine.
The meth lab was taken care of by clandestine lab technicians and turned over to a hazardous materials clean-up crew.
Also located was approximately an ounce of suspected powder cocaine, scales and packaging materials. The cocaine has an approximate street value of $1,200.
Detectives also found a loaded .22 rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun in the residence.
A 47-year-old male was lodged at the Cass County Jail on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, two weapons offenses and three warrants. Authorities withheld his name pending arraignment. Penn Township Fire Department assisted the Sheriff's Office at the scene.
