Buchanan opens season with win

The Buchanan varsity tennis team opened the 2004 season with a victory Saturday in the first of its two indoor tournaments.
The Bucks finished first with 18 points while Marhsall and Whitehall each finished with 13. Vicksburg finished fourth with four points.
Buchanan, the defending Division 4 State champion, lost six players from the 2003 team to graduation.
The Bucks got off to a good start Saturday with three first-place finishes and five second-place finishes.
Jose Gonzalez, an exchange student from Venezuela, finished first at No. 1 singles for Buchanan.
The No. 1 doubles team of Alex Flood and Alex Gordon finished first as did the No. 2 doubles team of Mike Otwell and Korey Camp.
Jeff Eifler finished second at No. 2 singles, True Sulier finished second at No. 3 singles and Doug Summers finished second at No. 4 singles.
The No. 3 doubles team of Ryan Skene and Andrew Gordon finished second as did the No. 4 doubles team of Dustin Sieff and Brandon Smeltzer.
The Bucks host another indoor tournament Saturday at the Lakeland Athletic Club, beginning at noon.
