CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his deputies investigated a personal-injury accident on Calvin Center Road and U.S. 12 in Mason Township at 4:23 a.m. today, March 18.
A vehicle driven by Jeanne Hales, 53, of Vandalia, was southbound on Calvin Center when she ran the stop sign at U.S. 12.
Hales' vehicle then ran off the roadway into a field on the south side of U.S. 12.
Heavy fog and poor visibility which caused a two-hour delay to start school in Dowagiac, Cassopolis and Edwardsburg, was a factor in the accident.
Hales was transported to Elkhart, Ind., General Hospital by Porter ambulance for treatment of her injuries. Uninjured in the mishap was her passenger, Brian Hales, 41, of Vandalia. Both the driver and passenger were wearing safety belts. Alcohol was not a factor. Porter fire and ambulance assisted deputies.
