NILES -- The United Way of Greater Niles has announced that pledges for its 2003-04 campaign finished at 91 percent of its $280,000 goal.
The amount raised is nearly the same as one year ago despite a sluggish economy, campaign officials said.
Campaign Chair Sherry Hocking expressed her thanks for the community's support.
A "Thank You, Volunteers!" reception will be held at the United Way offices in May following the annual meeting.
Also announced was the April 1st deadline for funding requests.
The United Way of Greater Niles currently funds 18 local agencies. Funding priorities include agencies that provide unique services to residents of the Greater Niles area including nurturing youth, strengthening families, fostering independence and elevating the quality of life for the elderly.
To be considered, agencies must have not-for-profit status qualifying for a charitable deduction under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, be legally incorporated in the State of Michigan, have a charitable solicitation license and have an annual CPA audit. Other requirements also apply.
