Make way for Lowe’s in Niles

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- A new Lowe's will soon by underway in Niles at US 12 and US 33, and is expected to open in winter 2004, the company announced on Friday afternoon.
The home improvement warehouse store will have 116,000 square feet of retail sales space in which to house 40,000 products under one roof. An additional 28,000 square foot garden center will offer a selection of flowers, bushes, trees and garden supplies tailored to the Michigan climate and lifestyle.
The Niles store represents a $16.5 million investment in the community. In addition the store will add approximately 175 new jobs to the area.
The one-stop shop will feature appliances, furnishings, building materials and lawn and garden products.
The first store opened in Michigan in 1994, with currently 31 stores in the state and one other under construction in Commerce Township.
Lowe's employs 150,000, with more than 4,300 in Michigan.
The business isased in Mooresville, N.C., the 58-year old company is the second-largest home improvement retailer in the world and also the second largest appliance retailer, with more than 250 models in stock daily.
