The Dowagiac Athletic Booster Club meeting this month was held on February 12 in the athletic office. Following is The Booster Shot - a recap of this meeting.
The group welcomed new members and thanked two coaches for attending the meeting. As always, parents, fans, and coaches are encouraged to attend.
Football coach Michael Stanger requested the Boosters purchase a video cassette projector so that teams can watch and analyze game films. Several teams will be able to benefit from this item as well as the athletic department when it shows MHSAA videos to parents and coaches. The Booster Club gladly agreed to purchase this projector.
A lengthy discussion took place regarding parent support groups and their relationship with the Booster Club. A committee was formed to continue to research this issue.
Athletic Director Bob Follett gave an update on the weight room project at the high school. The remodeling is well underway and is expected to be completed by May. Students have recently completed a lift-a-thon to raise funds to equip this new room.
The Booster Club along with the Dowagiac Union Schools' Foundation is sponsoring the inaurgural Chieftain Golf Outing on Thursday, June 17, at Indian Lake Hills Golf Course in Eau Claire.
The committee gave a report of current preparation activities. To date, over 200 letters have been distributed to local and statewide corporations and businesses to secure sponsorships and teams. For more information about the outing and for a registration/sponsorship form, call the athletic office at 782-4470 or visit the athletic website at www.remc11.k12.mi.us/~jbadder and click on Chieftain Golf Outing.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 4, at 7 p.m. in the athletic office. If you would like to be placed on the mailing list for meeting reminders, please contact secretary Laurie Ferrier at 782-4024.
