Mitchell, Kessick earn weekly honor

NILES -- Brandywine High School senior Bridgett Mitchell and Niles High School senior John Kessick are the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for Feb. 16-21.
Mitchell is the starting setter on the Brandywine varsity volleyball team which won a Lakeland Conference match last week to move into a tie for first place in the league standings. In the 15-12, 17-15, 11-15, 11-15, 15-12 win over Edwardsburg on Wednesday night, Mitchell had 33 assists and 10 digs for the Bobcats.
Kessick is a member of the Niles varsity basketball team which dropped a pair of Big 16 Conference West Division games last week. In a 71-51 loss to Benton Harbor on Tuesday, Kessick scored 12 points. In a 70-50 loss to Lakeshore on Friday, Kessick scored 10 points.
