BUCHANAN -- Even though commencement ceremonies won't take place for another few months, the Brandywine and Buchanan Project Graduation committees offered up a fun-filled night Thursday.
Buchanan High School was the site of a basketball game between the faculties from the Brandywine and Buchanan high schools, hosted by the two Project Graduation committees.
Each committee made about $245 from the admission fees while Buchanan's committee also made money with concessions.
The game, unfortunately, was a one-sided affair. Brandywine raced out to a 30-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised to a 71-51 victory.
Brandywine junior varsity basketball coach Don Meyers wowed the crowd with several 3-pointers while Buchanan varsity basketball coach Reid McBeth tried his hardest to show his players, which were in attendance, how the game is supposed to be played.
The committee from Brandywine has reached its original goal of between $10,000-$12,000 for its graduation-night event.
There are still a couple more fundraisers planned by Brandywine Project Graduation, but the focus has shifted mostly to the actual event.
There are around 20 to 25 people who regularly attend Brandywine's monthly Project Graduation meetings, but more than that have been involved in the fundraising process.
With 90 seniors graduating this year, the Sobeckis plan on most of them being in attendance after graduation, based on years past.
There is a $10 charge to students wishing to attend, but each student gets that money back in the form of gifts and prizes during the night.
