Pokagon appoints Gary Mihills

Pokagon Township's board appointed a former township supervisor Wednesday night to fill a seat left vacant by last month's resignation of Trustee Charles Miltenberger.
Sworn in was Gary Mihills, 64, a Pokagon Township Planning Commission member and board liaison for the Pokagon Fire Department.
Mihills will serve out the term for Miltenberger, who moved to Niles.
Mihills' term will expire at the end of the year, and he will have to seek re-election for the seat in the November general election.
Mihills retired as a general foreman from Tyler Refrigeration in Niles and currently manages the Mission Hills Memorial Garden cemetery.
He served as Pokagon Township building inspector in 1968 and as a trustee in 1969. He served as supervisor from 1989 to 1992.
Mihills said he will have to vacate his seat on the planning commission now that he is a trustee.
He won the appointment from a field of six applicants.
He and his wife, Sandy, reside at 61253 M-51, Niles.
Supervisor John True indicated that the five applicants or anyone in the township may apply for two vacant seats, one on the planning commission and one on the zoning board.
