CASSOPOLIS -- For the third year in a row Lakeland Family Clinic, Cassopolis, Family Care of Niles, and Lakeland Family Clinic, Benton Harbor, have each received the Michigan Peer Review Organization's (MPRO) most prestigious honor, the Governor's Award for Excellence for Improving Preventive Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting.
Of Michigan's approximately 1,400 primary care physician offices, only 165 received the award, including all three of Lakeland's primary care offices.
The accolade honors physicians' offices statewide that participate in quality initiatives to improve patient care.
In an effort to increase preventive health screenings, Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and MPRO challenged physicians' offices to improve preventive services in the following areas: mammography screening for breast cancer, diabetes screening and adult immunizations for influenza and pneumoccocal pneumonia.
