Eddies hold off Shamrocks

The Edwardsburg varsity basketball team was able to hold off Berrien Springs Friday night in a Lakeland Conference clash, 62-56.
The Eddies improved to 5-5 on the year and 3-3 in the Lakeland Conference. Berrien Springs slips to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the league.
The Eddies jumped out to an early 11-7 lead. Edwardsburg outscored the Shamrocks again in the second quarter, this time by a count of 17-14, to open up a 28-21 halftime advantage.
The Eddies held a slim 19-17 advantage in scoring in the third quarter to increase it advantage to nine points.
Trailing 47-38 heading into the final stanza, the Shamrocks cut into the Eddies lead, but were never able to catch up. Despite an 18-15 advantage in scoring, Berrien Springs still lost by six.
Phil Bretschneider and Nick Roth both scored 15 points for the Eddies, who also got 14 points from Nathan Peak and eight points from Chris Nugent.
Berrien Springs was led by Vincent Ruhumuliza and James Lockett, both of whom scored nine points.
