Cass County loses Collins

CASSOPOLIS -- Charles Collins, 67, engineer-manager for six years for the Cass County Road Commission, died of an apparent heart attack Monday morning in Middlebury, Ind.
Lois Jacobson, financial director, was still in shock the day after his death. "We are going to miss him," she said.
Funeral arrangements are waiting word from the Red Cross, which is contacted Collin's daughter Tina, serving in Iraq.
Last month Collins gave tours during the open house at the dedication of the Road Commission's new eight million dollar facility on O'Keefe Street in Cassopolis.
Collins was also instrumental when officials from Indiana and Michigan worked together on the completion of County Road 17 into Cass County from Elkhart, Ind.
Collins succeeded Rick Senger as manager in March 1998, and before that was a city manager in Ohio. he had an engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts.
