CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. Friday reported his office has received complaints from Milton Township residents of subjects coming to homes and claiming to be salesmen.
The first incident involved subjects soliciting carpet work on Conrad Road. The complainant stated a black male in a light tan Lincoln four-door came to the house while another unknown subject remained in the vehicle.
The first subject entered the home and was "extremely pushy." The subject kept lingering in the complainant's house until the resident was able to get him to leave. Once the subject left, they continued to drive around the area without stopping at any other residence.
A second incident occurred on U.S. 12 in Milton Township. In this incident, a white male subject came to the door, supposedly selling vacuums.
The subject again was pushy, but did not gain entry into the home. The complainant indicated that there was another subject who remained in the vehicle.
The subjects then left the residence. Both incidents occurred between 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15.
Officers remind citizens to use caution when dealing with anyone soliciting at their residences. If they do not feel comfortable with the individuals, contact police. Salespersons should have identification with them and be willing to show ID upon request.
