Although the date of the 2004 Youth Pheasant Hunt, sponsored by the Cass County Chapter of Pheasants Forever, has yet to be determined due to weather conditions, a sign-up will be held Jan. 24 at the Hunter's Rendezvous at the Dowagiac Conservation Club from noon to 5 p.m.
Only 24 youths and 24 mentors can be accommodated. If more than 24 youths sign up, a lottery will be held to select the 24 hunters.
The hunt will once again take place at Rolling Hills Shooting Preserve in Marcellus. Through the generosity of the Pheasants Forever organization, the hunt is being offered free of charge.
The event is open to hunters ages 12 to 15 and their hunting mentors.
During the hunt, the youth hunters and their mentors will be grouped into teams of two youths, two mentors with a hunter's safety instructor and a dog handler. The hunt will commence at 8 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. with lunch served to all participants.
To register, hunters must bring hunter's safety certificate, hunting license and mentor.
