The Dowagiac varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams will be competing in the same tournament this weekend in New Buffalo.
The Chieftains will be in opposite pools in the varsity tournament.
Dowagiac's varsity will be in the Blue Pool along with host New Buffalo, River Valley and Martin.
River Valley is an honorable mention selection in Class C (see rankings bottom of this page).
Michigan Lutheran, Niles and Kalamazoo Hackett will compete along with the Chieftain junior varsity in the Gold Pool.
Pool play is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
The Dowagiac junior varsity was originally scheduled to play in this tournament while the varsity squad had the weekend off.
However, New Buffalo needed an extra team and Dowagiac's varsity squad had lost the Otsego Invitational earlier this month which left an opening in the schedule.
Both Dowagiac teams will play at approximately 9:45 a.m. The varsity is slated to face River Valley in the first match of pool play, while the junior varsity will take on Niles.
Dowagiac's varsity will then face Martin at 11 a.m. and then finish pool play against New Buffalo at 11:45.
The Chieftain junior varsity will face Michigan Lutheran in their second match at 10:15 a.m. and finish up with Kalamazoo Hackett at 12:30 p.m.
Pool play will consist of two matches to 15 points.
The semifinals, which will be rally scoring up to 21 points, will pit the champion from the Gold Pool against the fourth place finisher from the Blue Pool. The second place finisher from the Gold Pool will take on the third place finisher from the Blue Pool with the winners then squaring off for a spot in the finals.
The Blue Pool champion will face the fourth place finisher from the Gold Pool, while the second place finisher from the Blue Pool will face the fourth place finisher from the Gold Pool. The winners will then face each other with a spot in the finals going to the winner.
The finals are scheduled for approximately 4:45 p.m.
Admission is $4 per person for the day.
