CASSOPOLIS -- Following the recall of Howard Township Supervisor Hal Davis and Treasurer Eileen Glick, a special election will be held to fill those vacancies.
Under Michigan law, namely, MCL 168.973, the county committee of each political party must nominate the replacements for the special election.
Accordingly, there will be a special meeting of the Executive Board of the Cass County Republican Party on Monday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kincheloe room in the historic courthouse in Cassopolis to nominate the two Republican candidates to fill the Howard Township vacancies.
Any person desiring to obtain the Republican nomination for either Howard Township supervisor or Howard Township treasurer is invited to appear at the meeting to make a presentation.
An equal amount of time will be allotted to each of the candidates who appear before the board.
The amount of time will depend on the number of candidates.
Following the presentations, the candidates will be invited to leave the room, and a debate will follow.
When the debate is completed, ballots will be distributed. If no person emerges as a candidate from the first ballot, then a second ballot containing the two persons receiving the highest number of votes will be distributed. For candidates who remain in the building, the winner will be announced.
